“In Sept. 1972, 10,000 volunteers lined the banks of the Blackstone River to remove tons of trash.  It became the largest one-day regional environmental clean-up in American history! Again, we are planning a massive clean-up throughout the whole Blackstone Valley Watershed.”

As part of the 50th anniversary of that 1972 clean-up, RICKA will be joining forces with thousands of other volunteers to offer the unique on-water cleanup for ZAP The Blackstone.  Read more about ZAP here:  https://www.zaptheblackstone.com/

Concentrating mainly on easily captured trash such as bottles and cans, we will enjoy a paddle while also providing some needed environmental stewardship of the Blackstone River.  CF Landing houses “The Explorer” for river tours and also provides a practice area for the Pawtucket Dragonboat races.  This stretch of the Blackstone, mainly between Lincoln and Cumberland, meanders past the old Lonsdale Drive-In, the original Ann & Hope, and up to the Pratt Dam.  The Blackstone starting at Manville Landing, just above the dam between Lincoln and Cumberland, is a wide river with multiple strainers to collect debris as we head north towards Woonsocket.  Both trips are round trip.  Bags, gloves, reaching tools will be provided.
